The demist shield helps prevent the PVS-14 eyepiece from fogging up during humid and rainy conditions. It also serves as a sacrificial lens to protect the eyepiece against damage from dirt and debris in dusty or windy conditions. The demist installs by press fitting it into the PVS-14 eyecup retaining ring.
