UNV 20-IR Long Range Infrared 1050mw LED Illuminator

The UNV 20IR is a long-range handheld or weapon mountable smart illuminator that provides an intense focusable infrared light with an adjustable power level. The ability to focus and dim the 20IR allows the operator the ability to supply an appropriate amount of light for any situation and reduce IR feedback.

Compatibility
Ther UNV 20-IR is compatible with Generation 2, Generation 3, and Digital night vision devices.

Easy Operation
The 20-IR is simple and easy to opperate. With one click of the tailcap switch the LED is activated. The 20IR has a low, medium and high brightness mode which are toggled through by pressing the tailcap switch half way(not so far that you hear a click). Once you get the 20-IR dialed in like you want, the driver maintains your brightness setting in the driver memory.

NOTE: A slow strobe indicates low battery.

NOTE:
The UNV 20IR has the ability to reach complete focus. When complete focus is achieved, the UNV 20IR will emit patterns including lines and dark spots. Complete focus is not the optimal focus setting for illuminating a target or shooting, but is beneficial to confirm the LED and aspheric lens are emitting the most efficient and highest amount of light.

The 20IR is powered by 1 - 18650 battery which is inserted in the battery compartment positive end first. A slow strobe indicates a low battery. NO NOT USE 2 - CR123A BATTERIES

The 20IR Includes:
  • 20-IR Illuminator

  • 20IR Lights

Posted by Robert Crone on Jan 28th 2015

I just received 2 IR-20 lights from UNV and was so happy to see that they have been inproved over the earlier model I bought a year ago. That first IR-20 still works like new. The new model has a simpler switch function and the light benzel is nice and tight. And of course, they all light up the world on even the darkest nights. They provide over 400 yards of light which is farther than many people can shoot accurately. Many Kudos to UNV for supplying such a compact and powerful Infra-red light for we, the 'Night Hunters".

I noticed that unlike my first IR-20 where you full focus to center the light in the mount and then back off to lose the lines,----the new ones will go to full and get the waffle lines and then go still farther past that point and have full light with the lines gone----real nice! Plus, I even run them on medium most of the time instead of full----they are that good.

As expected this IR made all the difference in the world compared to the included IR that came with the X-Sight.

This is an awesome addition to the built in ir of the scope, it really extends the range.
Very glad that I made the choice to go ahead and order with the N750 scope combination.

  • Illuminator

It is powerful but I think I bought the wrong one. I have since read the frequency of an auxiliary light source should be the same as the device you are using it with. I have it on the Pulsar N750 and it washes everything out on all but the lowest setting. The infrared frequencies are different.

  • Too Much?

Posted by Tobin Beal on Jul 17th 2014

I expected that an illuminator would be able to outperform the illuminator on the scope. Two things happened. The Picatinny mount on the side of the scope was too close to the object lens and washed in too much light. The result was a snow storm. I tried moving the light further away from the scope. The distance helped. The distance was so far I am concerned about finding a picatinny mounting solution that holds the light far enough away to not whitewash into the scope. I will worry about it when I have the permanent solution.

I would not have a scope or anything NV without this. It turns night to day. Guaranteed, dollar for dollar, the best deal.

It is smaller than it looks. Like a G2 with a larger head. You will need the rechargeable batteries and wall charger but with the ability to change focal beams and strength of the output it has more options that one would expect. Clicky tail cap functions great. Hard to tell if its on unless you looking though a nv device.
