Image Intensification(i2) devices use analog tubes to amplify light and are the most common type of night vision used for navigation, law enforcement, and military applications. While (i2) night vision devices do not have the target detection capabilities of thermal night vision devices, (i2) devices are inherently superior over thermal devices for navigation, viewing through glass, facial recognition, and detecting visible or infrared light.
